33 Years In the Making

Donnell Hayden
Master Coach
The Man, The Legend, The Myth
A Lifetime of Dedication to the Youth
Coach Donnell Hayden has dedicated his life to developing champions—both on and off the basketball court. A standout athlete at North Mesquite High School, South Plains College, Baylor University, and the University of North Texas, he earned opportunities to try out for the NBA and play professionally before choosing to invest in his family and his community.
In 1993, Coach Hayden founded G.I. Soldiers with a mission to use basketball as a vehicle to mentor, discipline, and inspire young people to reach their full potential. Over the past 33 years, he has trained and mentored more than 2,000 youth throughout the Dallas area, helping more than 100 student-athletes earn college basketball scholarships.
For more than 25 years, Coach Hayden worked with troubled juveniles in Dallas County, helping young people overcome adversity while building discipline, accountability, and hope for the future. He also served as a Community Support Specialist in the mental health field, providing guidance and support to underserved children, adolescents, and families experiencing behavioral and emotional challenges.
Coach Hayden's unique combination of elite athletic mastery, supporting youth in the Dallas Juvenile Justice system, mental health support, and decades of youth mentorship has made him one of the Dallas area's most respected community leaders. His mission remains the same: to help young people become leaders of character, excellence, and purpose.
"Respect. Win. Play Hard."
